Outdoor Knife Survival Guide 3: How to deal with food?

Once you have food, whether it is plants or a small game, an outdoor knife can be used to help prepare it. Here are a few basics:

Purifying Water

·Cut bark or wood to make a container that can be used to boil water (if there is a fire) or temporarily store it.
·If you have bamboo joints, you can use the knife to cut them and use them as a simple kettle.

Preparing Fish and Game

·If you have caught fish, you can use the knife to cut it open from the gills to remove the internal organs and scales.
·For small game, insert the knife into the bottom of the abdomen and gently cut to remove the internal organs, then wash it.

Preparing Edible Plants

·Use a knife to collect edible plants, such as edible roots, weeds, or berries. Be careful to identify the type of food and avoid eating poisonous plants.
·For some root plants, use a knife to peel off the skin to ensure it is clean.

Slicing and Cutting

·If there are plants or games with thick skin or tough flesh, use a knife to cut it into small pieces to make it easier to cook or eat.

Pay attention to the safe use of knives

*Knives are sharp, so be careful when using them to avoid accidental injuries. Always keep the knife facing outwards, not towards yourself or others.

Knife maintenance and storage

*Try to keep the knife dry and clean after use to prevent rust.
*Check the condition of the knife at any time to ensure sharpness and integrity to avoid knife failure in an emergency.
